Band Biography

Founded in December 1998, False Reality was active in the Romanian metal underground until spring 2003, performing with lots of Romanian bands, some of which are still active: God, Negura Bunget, Indian Fall etc. The only appearance in the group's discography at that time was the EP "Tales of Eternity", released online in 2002 with the help of Sidekick Records (Norway), on the website www.mp3.com.

In 2003 the band's first period of existence came to an end, but the remaining members never thought of breaking up for good, and after 8 years of searches the band got back on stage again. This happened in spring 2011, with a different lineup, but still into the same genre as before: melodic death metal.

In autumn 2014, the band started recording for its first full lenght album, "End of Eternity", which was officially released under Loud Rage Music on the 26th of October 2016.

Chapter I - The Beginning

False Reality begun its journey in december 1998. Silviu Stan - guitars, Marius Moga (R.I.P.) - guitars, Cătălin Bota - bass and Adrian Irimie - drums (all aged 16-17) were at the time members of a hard-rock band called ART, which was formed and activated at the Music Workshop of the Pupils' Club in Brașov (many thanks to professor Pancea Ioan).

Influenced by the music of Dream Theater, Samael, Crematory, Anathema, Lake of Tears, Theatre of Tragedy, Therion, Cradle of Filth and many others, the four young musicians chose Ioan Alexandru Crișan as a vocalist and begun rehearsing under the name False Reality, which they chose from a list of possible band names. At first, their genre choice was gothic-melodic death metal, but gradually things started moving more towards the melodic death metal area.

The first change in line-up occurred in a relatively short time, Adrian leaving his spot behind the drums and becoming the new keyboards player of the band, while Cristian Tîrsan was welcomed as the new drums player. Of course, the first songs were composed and the band had its first gigs in Brașov and Sfântu Gheorghe with a three songs playlist: The Sentence, Escape from Doom and Confused Sunset. The summer of 1999 brought the first appearance at a big event, the rock festival SAMUS ROCK ALIVE from Satu Mare. Also, the first demo was recorded, containing just one track - Escape from Doom.

Due to the new more aggressive trend, which was not to his liking, Adrian leaves the keyboardist position in the band in the autumn of 1999, being replaced with Lucian Popa, a friend and colleague of the other band members at the Pupils' Club in Brașov.

Following this change, the band had a period of both gigs and composing, while also recording five songs: Confused Sunset, Escape from Doom, The Sentence, Virgin's Curse and Under Waters, the composing activity being shared between Cristian, Marius and Silviu.

In the autumn of 2000, after personal issues and health problems, Marius also leaves False Reality. His replacement was Alexandru Iuga, but only for a short period of time, False Reality becoming a one guitar band in the spring of 2001.

Up to that moment, the band accumulated a number of gigs, radio and even TV appearances. Still, due to a lack of a permanent place for rehearsals, only three more songs came to life: Andromeda - Journey to the Stars, Bewitched and The Lost Place, Cristian and Silviu being in charge of most of the composing, while Lucian wrote the lyrics.

In 2001 False Reality signed the first contract with a label, Sidekick Records from Norway, who took the five previous recorded songs and released the band's first EP - "Tales of Eternity" only online, on the www.mp3.com website. Sadly, the label's existence came to an end shortly after, and of course, so did the collaboration with False Reality.

During 2002 the first major lineup problem appeared. Cristian decided to leave the band, in order to follow other musical directions. That came as a big blow to False Reality, because Cristian was the engine behind the band at the time, being responsible with the majority of the management activities (promoting, gigs, web site, contracts etc.) and also one of the main composers.

False Reality tried to replace Cristian with pre-recorded drums, and even had a gig in this format, during which the first and only live cover in the history of the bad was performed (Death in Fire - Amon Amarth). The experience of that gig revealed that it wasn't the right path for the band, and since other members were having some difficulties in their personal life at the time, they decided to enter a period of hiatus.

Chapter II - The Break

From 2003 until 2005 False Reality was in a complete time out, except for sporadic rehearsals with an incomplete lineup, but it was during this period when the idea of starting again with Lucian as a second guitarist emerged.

The inevitable happened in 2005, when Lucian bought an electric guitar and Alex Berekmeri got behind the drums kit. This time the band had no keyboards player, but after a short period of rehearsals Alex quit the band.

Until 2010, Lucian was conscripted to the mandatory military service (2005-2006) and also a number of musicians filled and left the lineup of the band, as follows: George Bratosin - drums, Adina Răducanu - keyboards, Mihai Pușcașu - drums, along with Adrian Irimie - keyboards and Cristian Tîrsan - drums, temporary rejoining False Reality. Even with all the new members, no live gigs were attended, the members of the band considering that they weren't prepared for this step.

In the autumn of 2009, Radu Grosu became the band's new bass player, replacing Cătălin, who started working abroad.

The last lineup modifications took place in the autumn of 2010, when Codruț Costea took the spot behind the drums and in February 2011, when Vlad Amariei became the band's keyboards player. Another song shortly took shape - Rapture and Pain, and the long awaited moment finally arrived: the first live gig after 8 years, on the 28th of May 2011, in the club Rockstadt from Brașov. As a novelty, Luci became responsible with the clean vocals in the band.

Chapter III - The present

With this new beginning, the members of False Reality chose to perform in phew live gigs and devoted the time at their disposal to rehearsals, composing and to the development of the musical relations between them. Therefore, they only performed in phew live shows, in Brașov, Râșnov, București, Ploiești and Turnu Măgurele. Having a stable place for rehearsals (thank you Cocu Marian and Fritz), new songs came into existance: Requiem into Darkness, The Silence Within, Rih al Khamsin, Dear Friend, End of Eternity.

On the 30th of August 2013, False Reality was part of the biggest event so far in the band's history, the first edition of Rockstadt Extreme Fest, held in Râșnov, Romania, where they shared the stage with bands like Gojira, Napalm Death, Carach Angren and many more.

Also, on the 5th of June, False Reality was the opening act for Arkona's concert in the Rockstadt Club from Brașov.

The autumn of 2014 was a prolific period for the band. The exciting news is that False Reality started recording for the first full length album in its history, material that is due during 2015. Also, the band joined Kistvaen's promotional tour of their album "Desolate Ways" with concerts in Ploiești, Bacău, Suceava and Brașov, also with Hteththemeth and Tanin. On the 31st of May 2015, the band has its first show in Timișoara, playing at Revolution Fest.

2015 also sees the beginning of the collaboration between False Reality and Anglo Saxon Booking Agency, an unique and interesting project of a British man that chose Romania to be his home, mister Graham Robinson.

The Transylvanian label LOUD RAGE MUSIC contacted False Realtiy in spring 2016, and the fruits of the talks would bear in autumn 2016, when False Reality's first full length album - "End of Eternity,"will be released by LOUD RAGE MUSIC.

In August 2016, Radu decided to leave the band, this being the first componence change in the new era. His place was taken by Marc Spedalska, who became the third bass player in the band's history.

The 26th of October 2016 will remain in False Reality's history as an importat stepping stone: the official release of the first LP - "End of Eternity", via Loud Rage Music, with almost 18 years passed from the first rehearsals. Of course, this will be followed by a series of live shows to promote the material throughout Romania, starting in January 2017.

After only the first two concerts promoting the new album in Târgu-Mureș and Cluj-Napoca, Marc Spedalska left False Reality, due to his new position as a resident neurologist medic in Cluj-Napoca that will keep him away from Brașov. His replacement is Radu "Snuff" Constantinescu, who actually took part of those two first concerts as well, playing three songs not featured on the album: "Confused Sunset", "Escape from Doom" and "Andromeda - Journey to the Stars".

More concerts to promote "End of Eternity" followed in March 2017, in București, Buzău, Târgoviște and Constanța, those being the last with Vlad, who went to live and work abroad starting with April 2017. His replacement is Judit Toth, a classical trained piano player and also a music teacher, who made her first live appearance with False Reality in June 2017.

In spring 2018 False Reality welcomed back its first bass player, founding member Cătălin Bota, who rejoined the band after Radu's decision to leave False Reality, in order to follow other musical projects. The changes didn't stop here. Since time became an issue for some of the band's members, the activity slowed down to a phew rehearsals, and even those not with the complete line-up. Therefore, in autumn 2019, Codruț Costea decided to leave the band, due to the severe lack of free time, being involved in other musical and artistic projects, having a couple of jobs and trying to maitain a healthy family file. His replacement is Alexandru Stănică.

The Covid-19 pandemic thwarted the band's plans, but they still managed to get back on stage, during 2021, at Flex Fest in the city of Arad. Furthermore, in 2022, they presented to the audience gathered in the Rockstadt club (Brașov) their first composition since "End of Eternity", titled "The Memory of Time".
